The term doula is a Greek word that means “in the service of women.” A Doula is a highly skilled birth
companion trained in the knowledge of perinatal support of mothers and babies, providing constant
non-medical, physical and emotional support to their clients. This support can extend to the mother’s partner and family. WOMBS Doulas within their own right, deserve through their professionalism and commitment to their clients, the support of medical staff and to be welcomed as part of maternity care in ALL hospitals in South Africa.
